To recap: two weeks ago my GSW was rearended, it went into the shop last week, and I got a rental car.
After a week and 1300ish miles, I turned in my poverty-spec 2016 328i to Enterprise.
I wanted it for last weekend’s road trip, since my GSW was in the shop and I wasn’t keen to drive so many miles in a POS Elantra (I’m a born and raised eurosnob, so sue me.)
So I opted to pay another $20 per day over what the insured’s insurance would cover to move up into a 328i. Money well spent in my opinion.
For this weekend’s road trip, however, I am not driving, and my car will be ready tomorrow afternoon which means I’ll be picking it up monday morning when I return.
So rather than let the BMW sit around in town while I pay out of pocket for it, I turned in today...for a barebones 2014 Elantra with almost 40k miles on it.
It’s amazing how much more rental car you can get for $20 per day.
Review of the 328i coming soon, and review of my 2015 GSW TDI SEL 6MT coming after that.

Nice rental. Didn't know enterprise stocked these. Which location, and how much would it have been excluding insurance?

San Diego - Kearny Mesa, would have been $50/day

I did this exact thing recently - my Fit was rearended in January and at Enterprise I had the choice of an Altima for nothing out of pocket or a 328i for what worked out to $10/day. They told me that insurance rentals are a fantastic time to upgrade on the cheap.
I had a very enjoyable week.

Not bad.
